Personal Development
Personal Development at Bayards Hill
We know that personal development is an essential part of helping children grow into confident, kind, and responsible individuals. It is at the heart of our curriculum in a way that supports each child’s wellbeing, character, and sense of purpose.
Personal development gives children the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to understand themselves and others, build healthy relationships, and make positive, informed choices. It helps them to stay safe, manage their emotions, and become active, caring members of their community. Children learn to value themselves and others, appreciate diversity, and take pride in contributing to school life and beyond.
This work is supported through a broad and balanced curriculum, including PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education), Relationships and Health Education, and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We also promote character education, British Values, and life skills that help prepare pupils for their future lives.
Our personal development approach is closely allign with our core values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience, which guide the way we behave, learn, and treat one another as a school community. They are reflected in everything we do – from how we interact in the classroom to how we face challenges, celebrate achievements, and support those around us.
We also offer a wide variety of opportunities for personal development, including assemblies, themed events, and enriching trips and experiences both within the local area and beyond. Pupils are actively encouraged to participate in these activities, which are designed to complement and enhance their classroom learning.
To ensure every child has the opportunity to grow beyond the classroom, we offer all pupils an Enrichment Pathway to follow throughout each school year. This carefully designed pathway provides a wide range of experiences and opportunities that relate to their curriculum learning, including the arts, sports, outdoor learning and community engagement. The Enrichment Pathway helps pupils discover new interests, develop key life skills, and build confidence in themselves as learners and individuals.
